News about Repression in Cuba

Cuban Christian influencer Anna Bensi said plainclothes agents and police patrols are watching the Havana building where she lives with her mother, who was convicted along with her for recording and spreading the video of a police officer. No official version of the deployment has been reported.

At least five journalists and several activists woke up Friday to find agents or patrol cars outside their homes to keep them from leaving. The crackdown follows the arrests of Yoani Sánchez, Camila Acosta and Adelth Bonne Gamboa.

Journalist Yoani Sánchez, director of 14ymedio, was released on Thursday after spending several hours detained in Havana, where authorities charged her with an alleged crime against the constitutional order. The following day she reported that she was still under surveillance outside her building.
